Autumn Days

Ben Ledi from Ben Gullipen

I have been out of commission for a few days after a minor operation but have taken the liberty of getting out and exercising on local walks. The days have been dull with mainly mist and low clouds but by serendipity, I have happened on some periods when the sun and skies have teased us with interludes that display autumnal splendour. I have used the time to test Snapseed, an editing app for smartphones. It had been recommended and I had seen the remarkable results in the hands of a pro. I eventually got around to loading it on my phone. I am still trying to understand all the options available but it certainly provides considerable artistic license.

Like many others, I have largely put my cameras to rest as smartphone cameras have improved. They are simple to operate and swift in use and eliminate the weight and complexity of a camera. The results are usually good in terms of exposure and focus; the rest is the eye of the photographer. I have recently observed one of the best and realise there is still much to learn.
